- It is a possibility that the student discussed doesn’t speak English, for he speaks only German.
- I would test this hypothesis by getting a German speaking translator to translate the teacher’s lesson into German for him. If he still falls asleep then my hypothesis would be falsified. If he stayed awake then this would support my hypothesis.
- An example of an untestable, unfalsified explanation would be that a voodoo spell was placed on the student, causing him to fall asleep every time he was listening to a lecture. Preventing him from learning anything.

ReplyDeleteThat is very possible that the student only speeks one language and the language the teacher speeches isn't the student first language and i love how you came up with the way to test if by having a translator come into the class to translate for the student. Also the voodoo thing i think there could be a way to test that because if you were to have the person who put the spell or whatever you would call it on the student and they did the un-do spell then all of a sudden the student started paying attention in class then that means it could be tested!!! Just a guess. LOL
This was a very creative hypothesis and test. You really went outside of the box! Thats nice. One thing, I would build the sentence explaining your hypothesis more. I'm not sure if that is necessary, but I know in math and philoshophy you have to write out the implied stuff for it to fit with the test/conclusion. For exmaple, "It is a possibility that the student discussed doesn’t speak English, for he speaks only German, making the class difficult to understand, thus putting him to sleep".
ReplyDeleteHey Ashton,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I really like how creative you got with the theory. I think the way to test the hypothesis is very creative to. I know that I assume whoever is in a classroom understands English. I would not have ever thought of this. One thing to think about though and this is something I learned from a counselor is that a student with a language barrier or learning discrepancy can let the college know ahead of time so the teacher can arrange something for that particular student. Great job though!
